Did someone say, Nebbiolo?

Let’s visit the best Nebbiolo wine regions, learn about the Nebbiolo wine, and also get into the nitty gritty on Barolo vs. Barbaresco.

When : 16 - 22 June 2025

Calling all wine geeks! I have got a super intese proposal for you. You ever have dreams about Nebbiolo, well I have cooked up a tour of a lifetime. We are not going to visit fufu wineries, we are going to visit 3 of the best Nebbiolo wine regions, taste their wines, talk about the differences, and get to the bottom of why Nebbiolo is the best and most difficult grape in the world. (I am not bias here)

The tour is going to be wine focused, so if you don’t want to wake up thinking about wine this tour is not for you. We are going to visit Valtalina, a place that some will argue the birthplace for this mountainess varietal. We will talk about the slope, the soils, and yes the clones in a place where altitude slope and the most amount of Nebbiolo varietals live. From there we will make our way into the Alto Piemonte, and maybe touch the soils in Valle d’Aosta to learn about the trellising, the heroic pergola, and the Stoney soils they have. From there in Gattinara, Gemme, Lesssona etc. we will talk about the worlds largest volcanic explosion (before Vesuvio becomes center stage), and what this has done in terms of soil structure for Alto Piemonte and the wines.

We will take a minute also to talk about Olivetti factory a UNESCO world heritage landmark and what the Olivetti family did to help build the Alto Piemonte area become what it is today. Technology and agriculture (something to think about ).

To finish off this tour we must take a visit to Langhe where Nebbiolo is at its most famous. But while we are here we are going to dive into when Nebbiolo was planted in Langhe, as the two other areas we will have visited first will be more historically known for Nebbiolo respect Langhe. From there we will deep  dive into what make Langhe today’s most famous area for Nebbiolo, the soils, exposure, altitude, and the revolutions that have happened in the past and which are also occurring today.

This tour is going to be wine wine wine and more wine. Sometimes we will stop for a bite to eat just for some energy to carry on tasting.

If you are a wine lover and want to learn more and live a minute like a sommelier on a research trip, then this is the tour for you.
