Israel’s food and wine scene is ever-changing into one of the world’s most exciting regions. Join me on a week long tour to discover first hand what everyone is talking about.
Day 1 - Soft Landing
Upon arrival, an elegant coach will be waiting at the airport. On our way to the first winery, we will taste our first wine and hear about the quality revolution that has put Israel on the the map in the worlds of wine and food. We will head south, to the Negev desert, and stop on the way at Galai Winery - a rural boutique winery whose wines have won prestigious medals and awards both in Israel and abroad. We’ll taste a range of wines including a white Cabernet Sauvignon and a take a short stroll through the vineyard. We’ll also taste delicacies from the region with the wines.. After a quick check-in at our hotel, a winery hotel surrounded by vineyards, and a short rest, we will head for a lovely dinner and a unique Negev experience: stargazing in the dark sky..
Day 2 - The Negev
After a typical Israeli breakfast, we will check out and head south to explore the the Israeli desert as a wine region, at the forefront in the world researching climate change and winegrowing. We will start visiting the Makhtesh Ramon’s visitor center to see this amazing natural phenomenon. Next we will visit a small winery and hear from the talented vintner about the challenges and advantages of growing vines in such a special climate. After lunch, we will travel north toward Jerusalem and to our hotel near Jerusalem for the next days - Cramim, Spa and Wine hotel, one of Israel’s most famous hotels. For dinner a local sommelier will guide us in a wine tasting and food pairing along with our delicious dinner. .
Day 3 - Jerusalem
On this day, we will spend the day in the heart of Jerusalem, the Old City. We also visit the Via Dolorosa, the Western wall and the famous local markets where we will have lunch. A local guide will teach us, as we taste, about the authentic delicacies and flavors of this amazing city. In the afternoon, we will enjoy a special wine tasting in a unique place with great views of Jerusalem. In the evening we will have dinner at one of the best and most authentic Arab restaurants in the city, a real treat. .
Day 4 - The Judean Hills
The Judean Hills is a beautiful mountainous area, surrounding Jerusalem, and one of the very best wine growing “terroirs” in Israel. In the morning we will start with free time to enjoy the spa and pool at the hotel. We will then drive to the Ella Valley, where David and Goliath had their famous encounter. Sima and Doron Rav Hon, founders of Sphera winery, will be welcome us and teach us about their interesting holistic philosophy about wine making. Sphera pioneered the white wine trend in Israel, previously a market devoted almost exclusively to red wine. Our lunch will be prepared and hosted by a local Kurdish Family with dishes typical of their family cooking. Another treat! After lunch we will go to a local distillery and continue our tastings of typical Israeli dishes (along with the delicious spirits!). taste some of the best destination recipes that made in Israel. Dinner at the famous Rama’s Kitchen Restaurant.
Day 5 - Tel Aviv
Today we head to Tel Aviv, the vibrant hub Israel for a day of pure pleasure. . We will first meet a local guide for a fascinating cultural and culinary tour of the amazing and historic Carmel Market Then, after the tour, we’ll have free time to walk around the market on our own and explore the various stands, foods and products. In the afternoon we will enjoy a unique workshop in a whisky distillery - where you will blend your own whisky. And, in the evening: bar hopping in Tel Aviv!
Day 6 - The Costal Plain and the Galilee
After breakfast, the day will start with a visit to an olive oil producer where we will learn about all the varieties of olives grown in Israel. And, of course, we will taste! We will continue to a winery in the historic village of Zichron Yaakov, the birthplace of modern Israeli wine, thanks to Baron Edmond de Rothschild and his family. Our guide will teach us the history. In the afternoon we will we will head north to The Galilee and go straight to a walking tour in the mystical city of Tzfat In the evening, after check-in, we’ll share a Shabbat dinner together.
Day 7 - The Galilee and the Golan Heights
Today we will continue north to the Golan Heights, for a visit of Golan Heights Winery, one of the most renowned Israeli wineries and the winery which played the first role in Israeli quality wine revolution. After our winery visit, we will have a tour of the Golan Heights tour and learn about the interesting and conflicted geo-political background of the region, once part of Syria. In the afternoon we will visit some the legendary Sea of Galilee and have a farewell and “see you again” dinner at a local and very delicious restaurant. And then on to Ben Gurion Airport, for a flight back home.
